CAUSES OF SALIVARY GLAND DISORDERS
The three salivary glands in our body are Submandibular, Parotid and Sublingual.
There are different causes for different salivary gland issues as follows:
• The cause of the most common disorder that affects salivary glands is that of ‘blocked salivary glands’. This leads to Sialothiasis and sialadenitis
• The cause of Sjogren’s syndrome is the autoimmune disorder. It is caused due to attack of WBC on healthy cells.
• Keeping a poor mouth hygiene also blocks the salivary glands and could causes disorders in their functioning
• Smoking could be another cause which gives rise to salivary gland issues
• Salivary gland issues could also be present from birth
• Infections also give rise to issues in salivary glands. Common viral infections like mumps and flu are the most common ones to cause the infection
